Meeting Minutes
6-2-03
The monthly meeting of the Mineral County RC&D convened
at 10:00 a.m. on June 2, 2003 with Chairperson Kevin Chamberlain presiding. The
following were in attendance:

There was no planned presentation for this meeting; the
following reports were given:
Extension – Kevin Chamberlain
- Larry
Burton, Pioneer Weed Control is currently doing the spraying for DOT
- Mineral
County 4-H is sending 5 delegates to 4-H Congress held in Bozeman
- Two
RCA Grants were awarded to entities within the County, Bailey’s Post and
Pole received a $20,000.00 to purchase materials and equipment and Mineral
County Community Foundation received a $5,000.00 to update the Mineral
County Economic Development Plan
Ninemile Ranger District – Garry Edson
- 400
acres will be aerial sprayed within the burned area
- working
on Ninemile Watershed TMDL
RAC and MCCF– Pat Hayes
- The
RAC will meet on June 3, 2003
- The
RAC is currently looking at awarding Title III monies. Solicitation for
applications will begin immediately. The deadline will be July 8, 2003
- There
is approximately $135,000.00 to be awarded in grant funds
- Jim
DeBree and Pat Hayes attended the Stewardship Conference in Whitefish May
31, 2003.
- There
is a bike riding field trip on the Hiawatha Trail on Tuesday
- MCCF
is looking at sponsoring a stewardship sale bidding workshop for potential
contractors. This workshop will be held sometime this fall.
- One
June 5, 2003 the stewardship committee will be monitoring the Knox Brooks
Stewardship sale.
USFS-Superior Ranger District

There will be Hiawatha Trail Bike Ride on Tuesday, June
3, 2003.

Appeal on the Post Burn has been filed with 9th
District Circuit Court of Appeals
Superior Schools – Supt Bill Woodford
- The
Senior Class graduated on June 1, 2003
- The 8th
Grade class will be promoted on June 4,2 003
- The
Carl Perkins reserve fund will be used to fund the HARK program.
- St.
Regis School, Superior School along with the U of M received a grant fro
$250,000 for Technology grant for far behind needs school.
- Enrollment
is up approximately 6.5 students
- Transient
population is still at 37%
RC&D – Kit Sutherland
- Seventeen
people attended the meeting with Mary Anne Roos.
- NRCS
will loose approximately 33% of their employees due to outsourcing.
- Western
Governors Conference is June 17-20
- Mark
Lewing has retired as RC&D forester
- National
Carbon Offset Coalition is moving ahead
- The
low bidder for the Fuels for Schools was Vantage Construction. There may
be a conflict of interest with regards to this bid as the owner of the
construction firm is also on the Darby School Board.
County Commissioners
- The
airport project is on hold until they sell the parcel of land that has the
contaminated soil from the Superior School track buried on it.
With no other business to come before this group the meeting
adjourned at 12:00 p.m. The next meeting will be July 7, 2003.
